PHAT camp

I know not many people read this.
But if you do, then you should pray for
the kids of Greenbrier Church, Cross Community
Church, and Grace Community Church.

This week (20-25) is the summer camp that I have done
with close friends for the past few years called PHAT Camp
(People Him And Truth).

and among others I am humbled to also be in this group.

if i can guarantee one thing about this next week is that
everyone one of the kids will see Jesus daily through these
people that I am blessed to work with.

My prayer for this camp for a while has been simple.
John 3:30 "He must become greater; I must become less"

I pray that I am the rest of the staff wither away and that
Jesus is lifted up higher every second of the day.


So for the one or two of you who read this thing that
is hardly a well thought out blog, pray...please pray.

Pray for salvation, pray for people to see Jesus, pray for the French foreign exchange student, Coline, that is staying at my house that decided to spend her last week in America going to a camp with friends she has made at a church, pray for...anything.

Our theme is "Reaching" (Mark 5:27) and I pray that these kids reach after Jesus and don't let anything stop them from getting to Him to just touch His cloak...

A True Friend--Part 2

This True Friend Blog is on Kadie Wasden. Although I have only known this person for a brief time, they have already had an impact in my life.

Kadie and I work together at Greenbrier Church as the Next Gen Summer Interns, which may be the greatest job ever. In our two months working there I've gotten to hang out with this Woman of God daily and see someone who never backs down from the beliefs they have.

I think one reason we have become best friends(which we are by the way--she replaced you Kayla) is because just like me she isn't afraid to act like she is 2 years old(I don't act that way--I just am)

Kadie is an inspiration to a lot of people, I am very glad that God has placed her in my life to constantly challenge me.

So Kadie, glad I've gotten to know you, go on a mission trip with you, and become your best friend :)

4th of July

Today is the 4th of July.
I will continue my true friend series tomorrow or tonight.

I'm currently at my parents house in Augusta.
We are preparing for about 30-40 people
to come over. It will be good to see a bunch
of these people.

One thing I truly dislike about this day is fireworks.
Never been a fan of them really.
I guess its cool how they work and stuff but I never
been truly amazed by them. They are just loud...

Currently watching the Braves game...I really hope
they win...also hoping that Andy Roddick can pull of the
upset tomorrow...good weekend for sports

A True Friend--Part 1

I will be starting my first multiple part series on this blog today. Each day (or everyother day) I will be writing about one of my truly incredible friends. This series may end lasting for 7 friends or maybe just 2. Enjoy!!!

As I begin to write this tribute to one of my dearest friends, I ask myself if my readers have been blessed enough in life to meet the faithful friend, Herberte Nasariah Higdon.

This stand up guy, more commonly known as Nash, the Nashty, or the newly coined Pearl Snap Cowboy, is someone of unmatchable character in my group of friends. He is honest down to every detail, even if it isn't always the nicest thing that is said. You always get pure Nash 100% of the time, though it is often very unorthodox.

Nash is truly one of the most laid back(except for when he is ready to leave and go somewhere), not to mention smartest, people that I know and sometimes I feel I don't appreciate him enough. That is why this blog post is happening right now.

So Nash if you are reading this ( which I know you will ) then I appreciate your friendship and look forward to seeing you soon and shaving you another "no-hawk". I hope that you have been practicing UFC because I can beat you with leg kicks.

Courage

Well this is my first blog on my own. Some of you may know me from my previous stint at Workclothesblog.blogspot.com but I imagine that no one will really read this so I'm mainly talking to Nick Carnes, Shane Padgett, Will Clark, Jeremy Ownby, and Kadie Wasden since they might be my only readers.

I've been reading in scripture a lot lately about courage since I just got back from a Mission trip in Costa Rica which challenged me to be very courageous and step outside of my comfort zone. During this time I've been diving into 1 Corinthians a lot, chapter 16 specifically and seeing what Paul has to say about courage.

If there is one passage that has been standing out to me the most it has definitely been 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 which says "¹³Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. ¹⁴Do everything in love."

"...Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; Be men of COURAGE; be strong..."--whats the first thing you think of when you read that verse? To me I get a mental picture of Rambo- someone who goes into a room and everyone automatically knows he is the man, don't mess with that guy or he will break every bone in your body. He causes mass chaos and doesn't care what people try to do to stop him.... because he can't be stopped. But then I read the next part in verse 14 "...Do everything in love..." -- that kinda threw my whole thinking off a little...when I think of being courageous and strong I don't think of love. All throughout scripture we are called to love one another and show love to those that have nothing. The biggest area that I struggle in being courageous in is showing love to others. Nothing about me, a 20 year old college student with a sinful nature, wants to be the person that goes and talks to the homeless person on the side of the road and listen to their life story and how they got there. It has nothing to do with me because I will always fail every time I try something, but when I seek after the COURAGEOUS, LOVING, AND NEVER CHANGING Jesus, His love shines through me and makes me want to live out Acts 1:8 and be HIS witness to the ends of the earth. I was blessed enough to see some of the youth and adults from the church I work at show the love of Christ to the Costa Rican people a week ago. Not caring about how bad they smelled or even if the little kids we played with had lice...They just let Jesus shine through them and loved on them, wanting them to know the love of Christ, our Savior.

I know I don't make much sense when I write so if you skipped most of that jumble of words and came straight down to this then I don't blame you. Hopefully I'll get better at this as I go and my prayer for myself and everyone else that knows the love of Christ is that everything we do would be in love. That we would be Jesus to people and show them that HE is the hope for the hopeless and the ONLY way
